Crates and Storage in Build a Garden Tower
Max crates only when the bar can survive the contents. A full inventory is a closed door.
The official Roblox description for Build a Garden Tower tells you to “Max out your crates and make money.” Players read that as “open everything now.” Then forage misses, harvest bounces, and they buy +200 Storage without ever selling. This page is the inventory pipeline: what shares the cap, when to open a crate, and when the 49 Robux storage pass is the honest fix instead of another Speed Coil.
Fruit, forage finds, and crate contents share one storage bar. That is why a pretty box can delete a rare you have not seen yet. There is no separate “crate stash” documented on the game page. Treat the bar as a single bucket.
What storage actually holds
- Harvested fruit waiting to be sold.
- Forage plants waiting to be placed or sold.
- Crate rolls waiting for a plot.
Selling converts fruit to cash and is the cheapest way to make room. Placing a plant onto an empty plot also frees a slot. Leaving a trophy plant in the bag because the walking lane is full is how the bar stays yellow all session.
The +200 Storage pass (49 Robux as of 7 September 2026) “adds +200 more storage.” It is a permanent store unlock, not a two-hour buff. It does not raise cash-per-second. It does not grow plants. It only stops the bucket from overflowing so the other systems can land.
When to open a crate
Open a crate when all of these are true:
- You have already sold fruit this lap.
- The bar is under about half. Forage uses the other half; do not let boxes eat the forage budget.
- You have at least one empty plot or you are willing to sell the crate plant on sight if it loses the tooltip test.
- You are not in the middle of a forage loop.
Skip opening when the bar is yellow, when floor one still has empty glass (fill with starter plants first), or when you would have to delete three producers to place one crate model.
“Max out your crates” is a production goal: earn and open them as a budget line, like floors. It is not a command to dump twenty boxes into a full greenhouse on day one. The money guide sets crates as rule 4 for a reason — they are RNG on top of a rate, not the rate itself.
The storage threshold tool
Hold these fractions in your head. They also live on the tools hub:
- Harvest anytime. Then sell before either RNG action.
- Forage under ~2/3 full.
- Open crates under ~1/2 full.
- Buy +200 Storage only if you overflow after selling, every session, for a week.
If you overflow because you never sell, the pass is a bandage. Auto Collect makes this worse: Auto Collect Fruits (FOREVER) ticks every two minutes while you AFK, fills the bar, and then forage/crates bounce. Pair collect with a sell clock or you paid 99 Robux to jam yourself.
Pass math without pretending prices never change
Live store prices on 7 September 2026:
| Pass | Robux | Storage interaction |
|---|---|---|
| Auto Collect Fruits (FOREVER) | 99 | Fills the bar if you do not sell |
| +200 Storage | 49 | Raises the cap |
| x2 Forage Luck | 199 | Wasted on a full bar |
| Speed Coil | 9 | None |
If the in-game store disagrees, trust the store. The game pass catalog and planner repeat this table.
Storage is usually the second pass to buy, after Collect, if you actually AFK. If you never AFK and you still overflow after selling, Storage can be first. Luck should wait until the bar can accept a drop. Coil never fixes inventory.
What to do with a crate plant
Same keep/sell test as forage:
- Keep if the tooltip beats the plot you will replace, or if it is crate-only and you have a themed floor whose rate is already healthy.
- Sell if it is huge, blocks collection, or is “rare” only because the restock was empty.
Update 6’s pagoda, cherry blossoms, and torii will show up in boxes. That is a theme filter, not an income table. Rank them on the plant rankings after a test plot, not after the unboxing animation.
Session script (crates edition, 20 minutes)
- Sell everything.
- Glance at codes.
- Fill empty plots.
- Forage once if under two-thirds.
- Open one crate if under one-half.
- Place or sell the result immediately.
- Buy a floor only if you can plant it now — extra plots are extra crate homes.
- Screenshot cash-per-second.
If the screenshot is unchanged, you opened boxes into decorations. Progress still saves; the HUD just did not climb.
What this page will not invent
- Per-crate drop rates.
- A named list of every box in Update 6.
- A claim that +200 Storage stacks infinitely. Buy it, then read the new cap in-game.
- A third-party “storage expander” script. If a GUI promises infinite inventory, read scripts and then close the executor.
Crates are a tap, not a personality. Storage is a bucket. Keep the bucket empty enough that the tap can land, then go back to floors and income plants. That is how a $1/s shed becomes a tower that still has room for the next rare.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Why did my crate give me nothing useful?
Either the roll was a dud, or storage was too full for the item to land. Sell, then open one box under half capacity.
Should I buy +200 Storage on day one?
Only if you overflow after selling. If you never sell, the pass hides the real problem. See the pass planner.
Do crates and forage share storage?
Yes. Fruit, forage finds, and crate contents share one bar. That is why the open-crate rule is stricter than the forage rule.
Does Auto Collect fill storage?
Yes, every two minutes while you stay in the experience. Sell between ticks or the bar jams forage and crates.
