Build a Garden Tower How to Upgrade Your Garden Tower
Buy height for plots. The pagoda roof is a reward, not a prerequisite.
The upgrade button is the real skill ceiling. Build a Garden Tower sells you a fantasy of stacked glass — Japanese roofs, tulip balconies, indoor ponds — but the mechanic is blunt: each upgrade adds floors and building space. More space is more plants. More plants are more cash-per-second. Everything else is paint.
The official description puts it in one line: “Upgrade Your Tower Farm · Get more floors and more building space.” This page is how to press that without stalling.

When to buy the next floor
Buy when all of these are true:
- Every current plot already has an income plant (not a bench).
- You can fill the new plots this session.
- Storage is not permanently slammed (sell first).
- The upgrade cost is on the HUD and you will still have a little cash for one restock.
Do not buy a floor to “save” cash from yourself. Empty glass does not earn. If you cannot plant it today, wait and read make money until the restock cooperates.
What a floor is for
| Floor job | What belongs there |
|---|---|
| Income | Fast, cheap, repeatable crops from the starter plants list |
| Rare / showcase | One or two trophy plants from rare plants |
| Pathing | Empty tiles so you can collect without jumping |
| Theme | Torii, fountains, pagoda bits — only after the HUD rate is healthy |
A floor that is 100% theme is a museum. A floor that is 100% plants with no path is a maze that slows harvest if you do not own Auto Collect.
Layout that does not fight you
- Keep a straight walkway through each floor. Auto Collect ticks every two minutes, but you still sell and forage by walking.
- Put tall models (pines, pagoda pieces) on the edges so they do not hide plot prompts.
- Indoor water and koi features look great in official screenshots; they also eat footprints. One water feature per floor is enough.
- If a plant clips through glass, rotate it. Clipping is visual; blocked prompts are not.
Speed Coil becomes useful after three-plus floors. Before that, the walk is short. Spend Robux on storage or luck first if you only buy one pass.
Height versus width
The trailer and icon sell verticality. That matches the upgrade copy (“more floors”). Do not ignore horizontal packing: a short floor stuffed with producers beats a tall floor with two trophy trees. Official $67M/s art is a full tower, not a hollow atrium.
If an upgrade mentions item or plant caps in the tooltip, read it. We will not invent a 15-level cost table the way some obby-builder wikis do — Evil Penguinz has not published one. Trust the in-game upgrade panel for the next price.
After Update 6
The live icon is a four-storey pagoda greenhouse. That is the current visual target, not a checklist. New upgrades after a numbered patch sometimes add themed pieces (cherry blossoms, torii). Buy the space first, then the theme. Skim Update 6 so you do not pay for a piece that just entered a cheaper crate.
Pair upgrades with the rest of the wiki
- Need cash for the next floor? Make money.
- Need something worth planting on it? Tier list and rare plants.
- Inventory exploding because each floor harvests more? Game pass planner on storage.
- Still learning buttons? How to play.
A clean upgrade session
- Sell.
- Confirm every plot is filled.
- Buy the upgrade.
- Plant the new plots before you emote on the roof.
- Walk a collection lap so you know the new pathing works.
- Forage once if storage allows.
- Log off with fruit sold so the save is clean.
The tower is a farm that happens to look like architecture. Upgrade it like a farm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What do tower upgrades give you?
More floors and more building space, which means more plots. That is the official pitch and the only reason to click upgrade early.
Should I decorate before upgrading?
No. Decorations do not raise cash-per-second. Fill plots, buy the floor, then theme the edges.
Is there a public upgrade cost table?
Not from Evil Penguinz. Read the in-game upgrade panel. Do not copy cost tables from other "Build a Tower" games.
When is Speed Coil worth it?
After the tower is tall enough that walking plots is slow. Storage and forage luck print more progress first.
