Build a Garden Tower How to Get Rare Plants
Forage empty, open crates with room, and only keep a rare if it beats your worst plot.
Rares are how a $1/s shed becomes the pagoda in the icon. They are also how players bankrupt a run: chasing a cherry-blossom floor before the starter plots are full. This guide is the hunt, not the flex. For ranking, use the tier list. For first-hour plants, use starter plants.
Three legal ways a rare enters the account
Shop restock. The rotating shop will occasionally show a high-cost plant. If you can afford it and you have a plot whose current crop is worse, buy it. If you cannot explain why it is better than your worst plant, skip it. Restocks come back.
Crates. The official description tells you to max crates. Treat a crate as a sealed restock. Open only with storage headroom. A rare that cannot land because the bar is full is a rare you never had.
Forage. A luck roll around the garden. x2 Forage Luck doubles that luck for the life of the pass. Forage after you sell, not before. Walking nodes with a jammed inventory is a costume, not a strategy. The dedicated loop is the foraging guide.
There is no verified public drop table. Anyone posting exact percentages for “Update 6” without a screenshot of an in-game index is guessing. Watch the tooltip and the HUD rate instead.
How to forage without wasting the walk
- Sell fruit.
- Confirm storage is not full.
- Walk the plot edges, water features, and any marked node. Official gardens show koi ponds, arches, and tree lines — those are also the places players naturally wander.
- Stop after one loop. A second loop with a full bar is pointless.
- Place or sell the find immediately.
Speed Coil shortens the loop on tall towers. It does not raise luck. Buy luck before coil if you are choosing passes — see the game pass planner.
What counts as “rare enough” to keep
Keep a plant if at least one is true:
- Its tooltip income beats the crop you will replace.
- It is a forage-only or crate-only plant you cannot buy in the cheap row.
- You have a dedicated themed floor (Japanese roof, courtyard) and your cash-per-second is already healthy.
Sell or skip if:
- It is huge and blocks collection paths.
- It is “rare” only because the restock was empty of cheap plants.
- You would have to delete three producers to place one trophy.
The Day 7 courtyard in official art is allowed after the rate supports it. Copying that screenshot on day two is how rares become clutter.
Storage is part of the rare pipeline
+200 Storage exists because forage + crates + harvest collide. If every session ends with a full bar, the pass is more honest than another Speed Coil. If you overflow only when you forget to sell, the money guide is cheaper than Robux.
A practical cap rule: forage when the bar is under two-thirds. Open crates under one-half. Harvest anytime, but sell before either RNG action.
Update 6 and themed rares
The current Roblox icon still reads UPDATE 6 and shows a pagoda greenhouse with cherry blossoms, a torii, tulips, and a koi-style indoor pond. That tells you the live theme, not the drop rates. After a numbered update, rares often skew toward the new set. Skim Update 6 notes so you do not spend a week foraging last patch’s flex plant.
If a YouTube thumbnail promises “rarest plant OP” and the video is actually Garden Tower Defense, close it. Those units (Tomato, Cactus, Gerald Gnome) are not in this tycoon.
Session plan for a rare hunt (20 minutes)
- Check codes.
- Sell, then fill empty plots with income crops so the hunt is not your only production.
- One forage loop.
- One crate if storage allows.
- Replace a single weak plot, not a whole floor.
- Buy a tower floor if the rare still has no home.
Rares are accelerators. They are not a second game. If the hunt is more fun than the rate, you are decorating — which is valid, as long as you know the HUD will not move.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How do I get rare plants?
Shop restocks, crates, and forage. Sell first so storage can accept the drop. x2 Forage Luck only multiplies forage.
Is there a Trello of drop rates?
No official Trello is linked on the game page. Treat third-party boards as unverified. Use in-game tooltips.
Should I delete starter plants for a rare?
Only if the rare's tooltip beats that plot. Never delete three producers to place one trophy model.
Why did forage give me nothing?
Full storage, no luck pass, or a dry loop. Clear inventory, walk one more loop, and stop. RNG is allowed to miss.
