Fill glass. Test one restock. Do not theme the $1/s house.

Starter Plants

Your first greenhouse is a tray, not a palace. Official art labels it $1/s and packs it with short green plants. Copy that density. This page is the buy order for that tray. When the tray is full, go buy a floor, not a torii.

Buy order (first 20 minutes)

  1. Cheapest compact crop that you can afford six of. Identical plants make harvest easy to read.
  2. Fill every plot before you buy a second species.
  3. Sell the first harvest immediately. Watch cash-per-second.
  4. If a restock shows another compact crop, plant one as a test plot. Wait a cycle. Keep it only if the HUD rate rose.
  5. Ignore anything taller than the glass until the first extra floor exists.

That is the whole starter list. Named S-crops are a myth until Evil Penguinz publishes names that survive a patch. The tier list explains why we refuse to fake them.

What “starter” looks like in official shots

Day 1: a single fruit tree on a checkered pad. That tree is the tutorial object — small, readable fruit, no pathing drama. Day 7: a courtyard you should not copy yet. The $1/s house: trays under glass. Your floor one should resemble the house, not the courtyard.

If your first floor looks like Update 6’s pagoda, you skipped starters. Delete showcase pieces until the HUD moves, then read make money.

Starter mistakes

One of each restock. A zoo is hard to harvest and hard to rank. Clone winners, skip losers.

Waiting for a rare to start. Forage is a later pipe. Empty plots earn zero while you wait. Hunt after the tray is full — rare plants.

Not selling. Starters produce a lot of low-value fruit. Storage fills. Sell on every lap.

Buying Auto Collect first. You can walk a starter house. Buy the pass when the tower is tall or you AFK. The game pass planner has the order.

When starters graduate

A starter plant graduates when something else beats its tooltip and you have a plot to move it to, or you are ready to delete it. Do not delete a whole floor of starters in one restock. Replace from the worst plot inward.

After two floors of starters, you are allowed one showcase corner. One. Then go back to filling.

Checklist before you leave the starter phase

  • Every plot has a plant.
  • You have sold at least three times.
  • You checked codes once.
  • You can afford the next floor or you know the missing cash number.
  • You watched the Getting Started video so the HUD is not a mystery.

A sample first-floor grid (mental, not a schematic)

Think in rows, not in named crops:

  • Row A (door): shortest plants so you can see the sell prompt.
  • Row B–C: cloned compact producers. This is 80% of the floor.
  • One corner: the test restock. If it fails, sell it. If it wins, clone it into Row B next session.
  • Never the center: a pagoda piece in the center hides every prompt on mobile.

If you play on a phone, this grid matters more than on PC. Huge models eat the tap target. Compact starters are the mobile meta whether or not they are the PC meta.

Pair starters with the rest of the loop

Codes, if any, should land before you spend the first harvest. Open the codes hub once, then ignore it until a numbered update. Forage after the grid is full, not before — rare plants. When cash covers a floor, stop cloning starters for five minutes and press upgrade. Then clone starters onto the new glass until the new floor looks like floor one.

Starters are not embarrassing. They are the only reason the pagoda exists later.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the best starter plant?

The cheapest compact crop you can duplicate across the first floor. Test any restock in a single plot before you clone it.

Can I start with forage rares?

You can, but empty plots while you hunt cost more than a cheap tray. Fill first, forage second.

When do I stop buying starters?

When a tooltip clearly beats them and you have space. Replace one plot at a time, not the whole floor.

Do starters work on mobile?

Yes. Compact plants are easier to tap. Huge showcase models are worse on phones because prompts hide.
